an *extremely* short snippet of two very much down on their luck pirate captains dealing with their recent losses. More light-hearted than it sounds.
Playing host to three crews was never in the Thousand Sunny's designs, so it was tight quarters these days. The Polar Tang has incorporated some of the Strawhats well enough from Zou to Wano, but they were the smallest crew to begin with. Now, the survivors of the Heart & Kidd Pirates had to make due living in each other's pockets.
"Eustass-ya, what are you talking about?"
"Franky and I are gonna rebuild your stupid sub for you once we salvage what we can-"
"Excuse me?" This was completely new revelation to Law and he looked dumbfounded. "Wh.. Why?"
"Franky just wants to build it. Dunno." he absolutely did know. Debts aside, both of them were itching to try and rebuild a full-sized SUBMARINE!
"Eustass-ya, if this is about Killer-"
"My crew was dying. You & Monkey's Doc stopped that."
"We're doctors, we would have-"
"No. TonyTony would have regardless. You, not so much."
"That's... unfair"
"Just draw your damn ship."
The book passed hands though the Heart Pirates, each sketching out the parts they had come to know within their soul over the years. Robin - with her eye for details, and Franky - who'd already been drawing the Tang when he'd been on board, helped fill in the pieces. He and Kidd poured over the drawings - Kidd, having no formal education or training, absorbed Franky's explanations. In turn, Franky marveled at Kidd's insane out of the box thinking. From the start, Kidd had essentially been reinventing the wheel with his every creation and his trial by fire approach had left him with unconventional but brilliant ways of looking at things Franky had never considered.
Ikakku and Clione sat on the sidelines of those brainstorming sessions - they're were most hands on when it came to maintenance with the Tangs internal engines and passed popcorn between each other when the redesigns stages started to go truly unhinged.
Clang, clang, clang went the trolley,
Ding, ding, ding went the bell,
Zing, zing, zing went my heartstrings,
From the moment I saw him I fell.
-the trolley song. Meet Me In St. Louis 1944
i had no idea what to call this. this song got stuck in my head while trying to find a title. not really supposed to be shippy, i just had no other ideas.

Law & Kidd make due with living together under Strawhat Luffy's authority. Now, Law at least had an idea of what that was like, but it was clear from the start that even if he wanted to - Kidd legit had no idea how to share with others, much less acknowledge someone else's authority.
They... did their best.
"Sketch out everything your people can remember about your Polar Tang," which was a bit rude as far as Law was concerned. So was the coffee once in his mug, now split down his shirt.
"I don't take orders from you."
"Eustass-ya, what are you talking about?"
"Franky and I are gonna rebuild your stupid sub for you once we salvage what we can-"

Law thumbed though the blank pages. Where did he even start with something like this? "You don't
need to to this, its too-"
"Eustass-ya, if this is about Killer-"
