Darkness and silence battles for control of the cave, both unaware of their imminent defeat by the cold.
To weary to hurt, Sanji and Zoro sat huddled together, prompted up against the far wall. violent shivers erupted from the both of the on occasion, but it seemed the desperate spasms were becoming few and far between.
Zoro hadn't as much as snored in days, and Sanji worried that the faint warm breath on his neck was nothing more than wishful thinking. He turned to look at the man behind him, his skin brushing against the iced blue lips. He wasn't surprised when he didn't have the strength to shiver at the touch.
"ne... Zoro?" he breathed, looking to see if he'd get any response at all today. He shifted so there where face to face, greatful his body was too numb to feel, as he shifted his broken leg, forcing it to move. He rested his forehead to the bared shin of the swordsman shoulder, the cold flesh giving him ill comfort to his feverish head.
"Please wake up Zoro.." his own voice was long gone, not even capable of drawing itself out into a whisper. Three days had passed since he'd gotten even a twitch from the other, and he was becoming more and more certain that the breath was simply nothing more than a cruel illusion.
Swallowing back such thoughts, he huddled as deep into the awkward embrace as he could, the swordsman sheer bulk shielding him from the cold drafts. He wished he could feel the rock wall behind them, the one his shoulder was pressed against, because although he couldn't see it, and he was fairly sure he didn't want to see, he was just as sure that his hands hand already fallen off, the the sheer cold had robbed him of his one treasure.
Maybe i'm still sleep... he mused, forehead propped up on Zoro's knee.
He was asleep when light finally filtered into their little cave. In it's own glass prison, a flame flickered, jostled about when it shown over the pirates, the two frozen together in death's embrace.
