Some post wano melancholy fluff that i need one last paragraph to finish it and a doodle or three XD
"You are crushing me!"
Despite the laughter that followed, Kidd knew there was no humour in the complaint. It didn't stop him from wedging his hand around Killer's torso to pin his right arm and tighten his grip into a bear hug.
Killer's left arm was trapped somewhere in the fur pile under them, and Kidd was quick to trap his legs with his own before Killer could kick him.
"Kidd!" Killer demanded, giggles threatening to steal his words away again - Kidd only held tighter – using his chin to push away Killer's hair so he could press his face into the warm spot between his shoulder blades.
He could hear Killer's breathing as he struggled to get himself under control. Could feel Killer's ribs expand and contract under his cheek.
With a deep weary sigh, Killer exhaled out one last laugh for the time being, going limp and boneless under Kidd. His hair fell across Kidd's shoulder as he turned his head to and fro a moment before settling.
Kidd said nothing, just tightened his hold slightly, turning to burrow his face into Killer's spine. Old burns and cuts mapped out across Kidd's line of sight, new bruises to learn rising and falling. Kidd refuses to dwell on the boot heel shapes to them. Branches of lighting burns from his hairline to his wrist - helmet to punisher- compliments of Big Mom when Killer had figured out how to cut past Kaido's skin instead of trying to cut through it.
Watch him fall – unmoving. lifeless - no chance of getting there time to catch him had filled Kidd with a terror he wasn't sure he'd ever felt before – only to be overshadowed by the horror of Kaido's open maw coming in to devour his partner.
He's not sure Monkey will ever understand the depth of Kidd's debt now owed him in that moment. The other captain had no reason to waste his energy worrying about someone else's crew, but he'd done it on the roof and he'd done it in Udon too. He'd been legit upset to witness Kidd and Killer's execution. He'd had his little posse make sure they got the keys despite the absolute chaos that had erupted around them.
Against his stomach was the warm burn of a still healing injury – a final stab to the back from Hawkins. Killer wouldn't talk about the fight - but he was still clearly shaken from it.
Based on the confusing accounts of Pomp, Bubblegum, and UK; Hawkins had Killer on the defense for most of the fight. Which already didn't sound right to Kidd, leaving him to form his own ideas of what had happened based on Killer's expression when Law had been stitching up Kidd's mystery stab wound over his heart.
That mask might hide Killer from most people, but Kidd had known him far to long to deceive him. Granted that worked both ways. He was an open book to his partner – Killer had him pegged back at day one.
Kidd had been so scared to let anyone close, but so desperately lonely. No number of mechanical friends he'd made filled that void. Nothing until the equally angry & scared boy that took a chance to trust Kidd of all people at his back.
Who still trusted Kidd at his back. Killer's breathing slowing, his body relaxing, under Kidd who shifted to let Killer's limbs free to move in his sleep should he need to.
Kidd didn't otherwise move from where he was pressed against Killer's back - although he did turn and bury his face in the thick blond mane at his side, his right arm now untangled from Killer's, returning to where it had been resting against Killer's chest.
