very short one shot that may or may not be the prequel to Cephalophore, depending on how sad you want to feel.
Find the One Piece or die trying, right? As the end game looms, Kidd and crew say goodbye to the StrawHats, choosing to go their own way.
"Marines!" came Usopp's call from the crows nest, all hands to summoned to deck with just a word
There was a dark smear on the horizon but no clear sign on incoming ships. Kidd believed the sniper regardless. He clenched his right fist in irritation, turning to the ship captain begrudgingly. Luffy watched the horizon warily.
As much as he would love a fight - they were on a race against time against Blackbeard and still had to find Law to rescue.
The dark indication of ships stretched across the horizon. It was a fleet - no doubt about it.
They could Coup-de-Burst but it left them at risk of being trapped by Blackbeard later if they didn't get a chance to refuel.
Well, looks like Kidd was paying his debt off faster than expected. He caught Heat's eye and his commander nodded before gathering their people together on deck
"I don't expect you to fight with us," Luffy warned, even if they both knew Kidd was incapable of backing away from a fight. Kidd beamed at him, a dark and ugly smile that Luffy did not like at all. "Gizao?"
There was a distant boom of canons - not close enough to hit yet, just gauging the distance, but Kidd threw out his hand to the sea and pulled them in anyway, collecting them above the water around the Sunny.
The Strawhat watched uneasily, and then - to the shocked crew - the Kidd pirates started to climb onto them. They had little nets to hang on to, moving in collective ease of some one who regularly hitched rides on fucking canons.
The marines hadn't noticed their mistake yet, and continued to fire steadily. Finally, it was just Killer and Kidd on deck. The two exchanged a quiet word, a fist bump, and then Killer stood on the closet one, settling into a crouch. "Ready, Partner."
Kidd _shot_ the canons to the forward most Marine ship, before leaping up to stand on Luffy's seat with a laugh. He looked back at Luffy, grin settling on something more sad. "Well, Monkey. Thanks for the ride."
He placed his hand on Sunny's brow before looking at Luffy one last time. He pulled his hand away before pointing out on the horizon the the west of them.
"I know you hate shortcuts. Which I why I never said anything. But you have to beat Blackbeard or we're all fucked. Raftel is three days with this wind, exactly there."
Shouts of surprise went up, Nami studying his header to memorize his directions. Luffy looked suspicious.
"She's been singing to me since you hauled me out of the sea. Fucking figures, as soon as I loose my ship, she tells me right where she's hiding."
"Who sings?"
"Raftel."
"The island sings?"
Kidd grins, "All islands sing. It's a goddamn nightmare trying to block them out, or figure out whose song is pulling to which island if they're too far away."
He stepped back until he's standing on the edge of Sunny's nose. "That should help with any stray shots," he admired his work, looking over the REPEL he'd put down one last time before looking up to the grinning Jolly Roger of the Strawhats.
"Well, it's been... something." he said finally, turning then to where Luffy was scrambling up to him, "Sail brave, Pirate King."
And with that, Kidd let his own REPEL fling him out to over the water towards the brewing battle, leaving the sunny and her crew behind. Leaving behind Luffy's distressed cry of "KIDD!" to be lost to the sea.
