it's a delirilict little home. Perhaps a decade ago - according to the date on the newpapers in the trash can they would find later - it was more impressive. It was certainly more strucutally sound. Deana nd sam give eachother a look from where they are still seated in the impala, her lights bright against the front exterier.
It's clearly a bust - the hunters either dead or long esince moved on. but there might be supplies, ingediants and books. weapons if they're lucky. they're about to throw down rocks-paper-scissors to see who has to go inside, when casteil leans forwad, looking consipated.
or confused. dean is getting better at reading his friend but he's still not always sure.
"What... are we invesigateing?" he asked slowliy, lik ehe's not sure that the right question, nd just going off the game the brothers were about to play.
Sam turns fully in the seat to look at him in confusion, "It doesn't look like much, but we still should check the house for supplies."
The brow crinkle is profound,a nd the angel looks back between the to borthers as if he's trying to read more into the words, quading them for hidden meaning. "What house?"
This gets both of the brothers attention, and the regard him with curiousity. "Do.. do you not see the house in from of us?" sam asks finally.
when he shakes his hear warily, it seems to perk them both ut. "Something there worth checking out. a signal or charm that hides a place form angels!" dean preens, looking excided now to poke around. He doesn't even wait, door open, and hoping out in excitement. he heads to the trunk to arm himself with gun and flashlight, ans sam studied castiel.
"What do you see then?"
"Just a.. open field, overground grass. the road just... tapers off in a few feet. I though tthat was why we stopped."
"Until we know why you can't see it, you should wait in the car," dean pipped up from the impala window, leaning down to rest on the drivers door frame. "Sammy. you wanna check out whats going on outside the house or inside? See what kind of set up we're looking at."
"I'll cate loague outside first and then see if you need help iside. Then we swtich. You see of missed anything."
Dean nods, turnign to Castiel. "Cas, you okay with that? keep an eye on things outside what every little bubble they've rigged up?"
"What if it's rigged up, some kind of trapp?"
"That's why you wait out here."
Castiel clearly wasn't a fan of the plan, but without seeing where the boys where going, there wasn't much he could do. there was a good chance that whatever kept him blind to the building was also not going to be nice to him either if he got too close. possibly could be rigged so he coulnd't leave either, but castiel wasn't sure.
not many hunters had defences against angels; until very recently, there weren't enough on earth to be noticed really, and most of them where observers, nothing more. maybe one a century actually interfied with free will - a corse correction from time to time. the remmy brothers who had lived here had been imfamouse in their circles for unusual wespons and a much higher success rate than many. it was lickly what every their system was set up for was a blanket 'anything but human' and casteil did unfortuatly fit that.
but most human attempts to hide from angels didn't work liek that.
It left him sulking in the car, watching on edge as Dean, and then Sam, simple walked out of existance.
Nervous, Casteil rolled the window down; Sam was looking outside the house, so... "Sam?"
for to many long anxious moment, nothing at all. then same suddenly stepped back into view, and a knot loosening in casteil's chest. the young human returned to to the car, getting form wooden staes from the trucnk. "Could you really not hear me?"
That unneraved Castiel further, and he shook his head in the negative.
"Okay, i think it's safe for you to get out of the car, but you should stay... six feet or so away? I'm gonna mark out where you loose me so we can get an idea of how the spell or what not works, and better find the focal point."
So the two of them made a wide arc though the field, sammy idally talking, his voice cuttting out every now and then as he'd vaniched from vriew. Every ten strides, sam would stake down where he'd gone missing, showing a clear curve in the grass.
"So not a parrimiare thing, but likely a single signle or something in the house"
They worked for a while, the impala as castiel only point of referance to how far they'd gone. suddenly Sam perked up, turning back to the car, "Behind the house, Dean"
Casteil was privy to only Sam's half of the conversation, belatedly reaching out to snag the boy's elbow as he started to head intot he circle.
"I'm just.." Sam cut himself of, liekly relaiseing before castiel did what was wrong. "Dean," he called, motioning over.
just as suddenly, dean stepped into existance, only a foot or so away, and Castiel startled for possibly the first time in existance. He'd had a worried uneasy look on his face, but it softened slightly, "Not so fun when it happens to you, is it?" he cracked, though hsi oive was stiff.
"dean said he found a hidden door..."
Dean nodded, shooting sam a thankful look, "It's warded up like i've never seen. they defiantly did not want anything to get inside there. I took soem pictures," he muttered, pulling out his phone and passing the device to Castiel, the signils in quesion on displau. "I'm not opening it until i know fro sure what heese mean, and i defianly am not going in alone."
Casteil felt cold, staring a te little tiny screen. "This isn't ... this ins't possible."
Sam looked ove rhis shoulder, "That looks like echonoian."
"These are celestial wards"
