Day 51 - 890 words - Prompt: tunnel

/go up there and start some trouble/

there had been a mighty cheer, as the unwashed masses of bitter, hurting, freshly fallen roared their approval of Lucifer's plan. He might have been the reason there where all there, but the rage at their holy-than-thou brothers still burned to bright to question their lot. all they could see what the resentment of those who remained behind and the need to destroy everything they'd been abandoned in favour of.

earth was still new - only a select few angels, hand picked by the almighty, even knew where it was, or how to get there. out of the (Legion) of fodder sent out to mess it up, relatively few actually found it. mostly it was a handful of star drone workers. they'd worked together before the fall and had stuck together more out of instinct than any actual sense of loyalty.

there wasn't much there to earth yet, just lots of sand serving as a blank slate for what would come. initially they weren't even sure they had the right planet, a few looking over the small satellites scattered though the system, and others investigating the more solid planets closest to the star. One brave one looked over a medium size gas planet in the outer ring, because 'Who knows truly the mind of god?'

Crawly conceded they had a point, but still didn't think that was it. No, his money was on the bright sandy one. because he noted, it wasn't all sandy., there where large blue pools of wet stuff too.

'Other planets have colour' one of his fellow demons had pointed out, specifically noting the big gassy ones. And they where right too, but.. but the colour on this one was different. It felt different too, as he descended though its atmosphere, the pressure changes holding the water in the air, clouds lazily corning in the far corners of his sight.

No. No this one was different, he insisted.

He was right, in the end. Eventually, they demons who'd explored this planet with him found the Almighty's little project - a great sodding wall in the middle of the sandy open, with cherubim posted at the highest points.

Crawly hadn't really encountered cherubim until the fighting had turned form words to blows, but they're forms where burned into his mind, and before he really knew what he was doing, he'd burrowed down into the sand, careful to keep out of sight.

His party wasn't so clever, and it didn't take long for alarms to sound. there was screaming above him, and he burrowed down deeper to hide. even once the sounds of slaughter faded away, crawly didn't surface, wriggling his body though the sand, even as it got thicker and more compact, the dry tiny stones turning more to a (moist) packed earth.

Time was a very new concept, and the passing of it had been unmotivated by him completely until very recently. Lucifer had brought it to is attention, his beginning of the concept starting with the archangels disgruntled pondering. it was still too knew of an idea for him to tell you how long he was under the ground, tunneling blindly though the earth on instinct. pressure wasn't new to him, he'd done some minor work inside black holes before, so it wasn't claustrophobic or cramped to him.

For the first time since he was fallen, he felt.

Safe.

Fear may have been what drove him down here, but.. but.. but there was no one where. there where no angels to judge him, and no demons to lash out at him. there was no God to punish him.

and then.. then there was light.

He wasn't sure he'd meant to surface, but he had, his snout breaking through the thick roots tangled in the dirt, until he found a picture of green, and blue, and brown, and just a would of colour the likes he thought he'd never see again. it was like being back to work inside a cosmic dust cloud, except here everything was solid and whole, and sure, he could go small enough to have it look like the work sight of a baby star again if he wanted, but he didn't have to. some of the dirt moved as his body passed though it, but mostly, /he/ moved instead, no longer the most solid idea even in this compact form. He was sure that when he'd been bundled in their 'corporation' that he'd be the most solid mass from then until the end, but no!

He coiled his body around a looming tree, the bark thick and unyielding under his scales, and the SMELLS! he'd never really understood what a smell was until just then, flower blossoms and greenery passing on a light breeze.

He'd heard that the Almighty was creating paradise. he understood it know. this is what they'd been forsaken for.this is what Lucifer had raged against, this wonderful place that was to replace them all. there would be beings in here, if crawly understood correctly. things here that where created to rule over them.

Things this wonderful, beautiful place had been made for, that none of them where suppose to ever get to experience. Even then, as crawly looked around, he could sense no angels actually in the garden, only stationed on the wall. To, forbidden from this place just as much as he.

Well... We'll see about that.
