He's ten and he's in love.
Victoria is the divine incarnate, ineffability made flesh, and Kidd would worship at her altar until the oceans dried up and the world ended. His mother thinks he's being ridiculous, but Kidd will hear no blaspheme of the transcendent guardian nymph of Kutzk.
Kidd's world is about to be flipped upside down when the dark underworld Victoria moves about in comes creeping into the quiet life he and his mother have carved out for themselves.
Doldrum

Kidd has been an all or nothing kind of man his whole life. He filled his ranks with the same mindset - go big or die trying. At least, they'd all had certainly thought so, until the die part of die trying loomed over them, pushing them under the waves of the Grand Line in one last glorious blaze. The Victoria Punk - their home - burning around them, corpse slowly lost to the sea. But she gave up little parts of herself as life lines, flotsam rising to the surface for those not ready for the sea's embrace.

Feveruary
  • Eustass Kidd & his mom Brichtrede
He's not sure why it feels like he's still asleep, even long after he's woken up, tiny child body curled up under smelly blankets in a dingy back alley. He wonders where Killer wandered off to this early, his friend's body heat sorely missed in the dreary summer rain of Kutzk. The air is wet and cold and he reaches up to pull the blanket higher, water beading and rolling down the wool as he huddles under it. It keeps trying to slip off his left shoulder, the stub of his arm aching, partially the phantom pain that regularly haunts him, and then something deeper driven by the bleak weather.
Things are not what they seem when Kidd wakes up in the wrong place, the wrong time.

Only one things changes. It shouldn't mean much, in the grand scale of things. One chromosome shifted. The story remains the same, the players unchanging in their roles. In every incarnation, Killer is Kidd's partner, and nothing will change that.
The story was already written. Their plight always set to follow this path. Nothing changes. Except...

Kidd & Killer met in 7th grade shop class. Two outsiders with nothing in common other than having no friends. Both new to the school, Kidd too young, Killer too old.
Maybe not friends, but its nice to have one class where not everyone actively tries to disclude you.
Chapters will likely be short, a class by class look as the two move though the school year.
no golf in this story outside the title. A mulligan is a free shot sometimes given a golfer in friendly play when the last shot was poorly played, and a whiff is when a golfer swings and miss the ball entirely.
Kidd is actually in the 6th grade, Killer in 8th. But they've both been given special permission to take shop.

Its a light rain, warm fresh water splashing his face, the edge of a tropic storm building on the horizon. It picks at his memory, like a forgotten dream, a lullaby from the few calm points of his childhood; a point of peace where he knew he was going to die, but that was okay. He's thirteen again, and his world is ending, but it's okay, because he wasn't alone anymore.
Corazon is standing at the front of their tiny ship, staring out at the storm with a look of worry. He was just as Law remembered him, large and imposing as equal as soft and kind.
It was a nice dream to die in, Law supposed.
This loosely takes place after Blackbeard attacks the Polar Tang, but takes a sharp turn into AU after that. After being ambushed by Blackbeard, Law dreams of being 13 again, drifting on the sea in the last days he had with Corazon. But they end up on an island he's never seen before, lives tangling with children he's not supposed to meet for years to come, if ever at all. In the end, Law's now sure he's not dreaming, and might have a chance to fix everything. Or make it all so, so much worse.

There is something deeply wrong with his partner.
It's not just the wild hysterical laughter; though that no other sound has come from the man is still deeply disturbing. But its the way he leans into Kidd, touches him, vacillating between wanting to kill him or worship him. The walk out of Udon was like walking across hell, and the only solitary thing that seems to go right is that Killer knew where to go.
Kidd and Killer have just escaped Udon.
Adrift

His head was pounding and he felt like he was going to vomit. The sun beat down on his face, the sea salt thick in the air, the waves uneasy under him. They were not violent, however, they were pitching much more than they should, and Eustass Kidd jerked awake in a panic.
Nothing but the ocean met his gaze.

His crew is gone. His ship, his home, is gone. Kidd is lost at sea, set adrift both literally and figuratively. At least he's not alone.

I apologize to Law for giving him open-mouth insert-foot disease for this one. Kidd just brings out the absolute worst of him.
Sometimes, you run into issues on how to refer to different languages in a source material that is different than the language you are creating in.

This started while I was doing Gàidhlig exercises. It would bleed over into quite a few of these pieces this summer, but here's the one that started it. Mostly started with the idea of bored Kidd (who Oda says would be Scottish if from our world) teaching Luffy Scot Gaelic|Gàidhlig while in Udon. Luffy is definitely pronouncing that wrong.
Internet provided translations for everything else.

After fleeing Blackbeard, Law & Bepo have been rescued by the Strawhats. Luffy is more than happy to help Law find his ship and crew, but his crew rightly points out that finding a submarine under the water is a big ask. If only there was someone they knew who could find large metal things and easy move them around. Possibly bring a sunken sub up to the surface with his magnetic abilities.
So they detour to hunt down the Kidd Pirates. Unfortunately for Law, Shanks found Kidd first.

After the Raid on Onigashima, Ikkaku - Sole woman of the Heart Pirates - takes it upon herself to check on the other women that fought in the Raid. It was an olive branch most accepted. She's got one group left on her self-imposed list and she was not prepared.

Stationed outside of the asteroid field, the Victoria Zeta drifted. She was on a skeleton crew for this run - the task retrieving lost cargo instead of their usual mining operations.

Thinking about Killer wearing makeup 'cause he's "working" as prostitute and gets paid for it more/gets more "customers" and Kid copies him thinking makeup is cool ... Or .... Kilkil wore makeup for the same reason/he thought it was rad and cool and got beaten badly -> Kid starts wearing makeup too and beats the shit outta Killer's attackers

Exploring some headcanon reasons for Killer's look post time skip. Takes place roughly at the beginning of the time skip or just right before things pick back up with Luffy in Sabaody, with the coda during the fish man island arc, setting up for punk hazard.

Kidd is a bit of a Schrödinger's cat in this bit; The rest of the KP crew have been rounded up by Shanks and Crew, but Kidd was not found.
Aimless little drabble. More of a character study. I dunno. Killer's head in is a bad place and he will do anything to keep his remain crew safe - even at the cost of his own sanity it seems.
Some SA is implied from Killer's time as Kazamo, and there is some crude moments where shanks wants to see how far KP crew will go to keep each other safe. was not sure how to tag that one.

Still, it surprised him when Kidd approached him first, a thick pad of blank newsprint that Law hoped he'd gotten permission for before liberating from Franky's workshop. Kidd dropped the heavy booklet on Law with no preamble.
an *extremely* short snippet of two very much down on their luck pirate captains dealing with their recent losses. More light-hearted than it sounds.
Clash of Blades

this was supposed to be a look at Killer leaving Kamazo dead and buried so he can move on. Zoro was a part of this process - even more than Killer knew.
